Solving geological challenges using earth remote sensing
Given Kazakhstan’s large territory, prospecting
and detecting natural resources can only be efficient when a wide
range use of aerospace images and new information technologies to
process remote sensing data are used.
That is why KAZGEOCOSMOS is actively developing and adopting aerospace
technology to solve the problems of prospecting and detecting hydrocarbons
fields and ore mines.
Using special types of aerospace imagery (infrared, radar, UV and
other), it is possible to quickly obtain new information that has
not been available in the past.
This can be used for a regional evaluation of whether structures
are promising and detecting and studying local structures and for
planning and monitoring the rational volume of detailed geological
and geophysical research.
Space images obtained from the TERRA, Landsat, IRS, RADARSAT and
ASTER space apparatuses and CASI-1500 hyperspectral imager are processed
using specialised software (ERDAS IMAGINE, eCognition and others).
The analysis is then completed using all the available geological
and geophysical data, making it possible to minimise costs during
planning and the carrying out of onshore or offshore geophysical
and drilling operations, ensuring that forecasts are updated quickly
at all stages.
KAZGEOCOSMOS fulfils the geological simulation of oil and gas fields
by using specialised software ROXAR (creating 3D geological models
of layers to estimate hydrocarbons reserves) and FRACA (creating
3D models of joint systems to assess their impact on the productivity
of oil wells).
Our company has already completed a number of projects for oil and
gas companies, for example a project to create a 3D model of joint
systems and analyse their impact on the productivity of wells in
the Kashagan field. KAZGEOCOSMOS is continuing to carry out work
on the North Caspian project, for example a complex analysis of aerospace
and geological data for purposes of building preliminary 3D fracture
models of joint systems of Aktoty and Kairan fields. Projects are
underway to carry out space
monitoring of oil spills of natural origin in the Kazakh sector of
the Caspian Sea and detect new promising fields in the South Torgay
oil and gas basin.
